"Don't let me watch my daughter die! Absolutely not!" He pushed her into the carriage and thrust the pistol into her hand.
Then the Governor closed the door of his car, and drove hastily to the waiting ship.
When they were almost at the quay, the governor brought the carriage to a slow stop.
Two figures stood huddled in the shadows, one of them wearing a captain's hat.
The governor jumped out of the carriage, and said to Elizabeth, "Stay in the carriage."
He walked quickly towards the two men: "Captain Hawkins!" said the Governor, relieved to see a friend.
But Hawkins didn't answer, the other man stepped aside, and the captain slumped forward, blood stained on his jacket.
Governor Swan suddenly realized that another person was holding the captain's body in the shadows and keeping him upright.
"Good evening, Governor," said the man.
He slowly wiped the blood off the knife with a handkerchief, and Swan gasped.
He recognized the man. It was Mercer, Beckett's clerk.
"What a pity." Mercer said, pointing to the body, and Governor Swann panicked and ran to the carriage.
He yelled, "Elizabeth!"
But Mercer blew his whistle, and immediately assembled a troop of soldiers.
Mercer smiled and slammed the car door open with his own hands, but there was no one inside.
"Where is she?" Mercer asked angrily.
"Who?" Swan replied.
Mercer slammed the Governor into the cart and growled, "Elizabeth!"
"She has always been a wayward child," said the governor innocently.
Mercer ordered him to be shackled and roughly led away.

Lord Beckett entered his dimly lit office in the East India Trading Company building.
He lit a lamp on the huge mahogany table and saw that the box containing the amnesty was empty.
He also realized that he was not alone.
Elizabeth stepped out of the shadows, holding the pistol her father had given her.
"These amnesty decrees were indeed signed by the king, but they are all blank." She slammed the documents on the table as she said.
Beckett smiled, expressionless: "It will only take effect with my signature and seal."
"I know." Elizabeth said, holding the gun firmly in her hand, "You sent Will to get you the compass that belonged to Jack Sparrow."
She continued, "But it won't do you any good. I've been to the Isle of the Dead, and I've seen the treasure with my own eyes, and there's something you need to know."
Beckett smiled triumphantly: "Ah, I see."
"You thought that compass could only find the island of the dead. I'm afraid you're mistaken, Miss Swan, I'm not interested in those cursed Aztec gold." A priceless treasure in that cave.
He continued: "I'm not that short-sighted."
Lord Beckett pointed to a huge world map: "In the sea, there is more than one box of valuable treasures."
"So maybe you'd be willing to bid more..." he said, ending with a smile.
Elizabeth pulled the breech and pointed the gun directly at Beckett's head, and he suddenly stopped smiling.
"When you are thinking of your own wishes, think that you have robbed me of my wedding night," said Elizabeth sternly.
At gunpoint, Beckett signed the documents, but he did not hand them over to Elizabeth right away.
"You have spared no effort to ensure Sparrow's freedom." Beckett said curiously.
"These are not for Jack," Elizabeth replied.
"Then to secure Mr. Turner's freedom. What about me? I still want the compass, and you'll have to think about that in your calculations."
Then Beckett handed over the amnesty.
Now that the purpose of Elizabeth's trip had been achieved, she turned and disappeared into the thick night.

The next morning, a merchant ship called the Edinburgh Merchant set out from the Royal Harbor.
While the ship was sailing out into the open sea, a sailor on deck happened to see a strange thing.
He picked it up, it was a wedding dress.
Bellamy, the captain, heard the commotion, and came on deck at once.
His cashier and quartermaster were trying to wrest the wedding dress from each other.
Captain Bemera said loudly, "If you both like the dress, you can share it and wear it alone for a day."
"That's not the case, sir." The accountant hastily replied, "This ship is haunted!"
Bellamy looked at the dress and said, "Is it now?"
"Yes," replied the quartermaster. "There is a ghost woman on board with us, sir, and everyone feels it."
